Block Amazon For Me

Browser extension

2018

In 2018, various NYC labor groups were organizing against Amazon's new proposed headquarters in Queens. In support of these on-the-ground efforts, I created a media campaign around a (now defunct) browser extension called "Block Amazon For Me", which blocked Amazon-owned e-commerce websites.

From my previous experience on other successful activist campaigns as well as corporate marketing work on Madison Avenue, I knew the media narrative was more important that the actual plug-in. My press release was fictiously authored by "a group of disgruntled NYC tech workers" and received extensive local and national media coverage.

With a small amount of tech and media savvy, I was successfully able to redirect significant media attention to the messages of these small grassroots organizations.
